Studio NOR Transforms Beijing's 798·751 Train Street with Micro-Renovation

The Train Street at Beijing's 798·751 Park, a site that was once a coal yard and railway hub for the 751 Factory before being turned into an underground garage, has undergone a micro-renovation by Studio NOR. Initially, after the installation of a dozen retired train carriages along the garage's rooftop plaza tracks, the area lost its vibrancy despite opening to the public. To revitalize this passive corridor into a lively community space, the architects adopted a lightweight, modular approach. Completed in 2025, the project spans 4000 m² and was spearheaded by Boyuan Jiang, Jingwen Wang, and Shuo Yang, with contributions from Zijie He, Jin Gan, Yichen Jin, Haitao Tai, and Jiajie Li. Hubei Muzhiyi Decoration Engineering Co., Ltd. and JingKai Construction Group Co., Ltd. handled contracting, while Shenzhen Hitrus Design managed structural and MEP work, and Studio BLRR provided lighting design. The client was Beijing 798 Cultural Technology Co., Ltd., and Haoyu Ran captured the photographs.
