Studio Marcus Kraft Rebrands Klangwelt Toggenburg with Dynamic Typeface
Studio Marcus Kraft has developed a rebrand for Klangwelt Toggenburg, centered on a dynamic typeface that visually represents sound dispersion in the Alps. The custom font, named Klangwelt Regular, features letters that expand and scatter like sound waves, with repeating fragments of characters such as K, g, and y that detach and drift apart. This typographic resonance metaphor extends across the entire visual identity, incorporating sound frequencies, harmonics, and the contour lines of the Toggenburg valley. The design employs a restrained palette of black type on white paper, allowing photography to highlight the valley's greens and rock greys. Font engineering was handled by David Jonathan Ross. The system includes a wordmark, wayfinding discs on the Klangweg trail, animated trailers, and a design manual with two bound volumes covering values, wordmark, brand architecture, typography, grid, color, and materiality. Physical applications such as stationery, letterheads, cards, and envelopes feature the scattered wordmark on uncoated stock. The Programm '25 brochure combines broken-apart headlines with full-bleed valley photography. A new website by vitamin 2, animation by Miriam Palopoli, and a sonic logo by Christian Zehnder complete the rollout. The project began with the Klangweg reopening in 2024 and precedes the Klanghaus opening in 2025. The rebrand has received Silver at the 2026 European Design Awards, ADC Switzerland Silver, and a TDC Tokyo Certificate.
