Studio Locomotive wraps Waankarn restaurant in timber louvres in Thailand

Bangkok-based Studio Locomotive has completed Waankarn, a restaurant and events space in Khao Lak, Thailand, wrapped in timber louvres made from Ceylon ironwood. The double-height structure features a stepped concrete corridor that doubles as an exhibition space, flanked by a main dining room to the north and a bar to the south. The bar incorporates a countertop made from salvaged industrial steel and a feature wall of repurposed traditional clay roof tiles. A mezzanine walkway connects to roof terraces. Design director Thanart Chanyu said the project aims to let visitors 'experience the sensory realities of Southern Thai living' and to serve the broader community.
