Studio Kiln Moves from Cornwall to London: A Gradual Shift

Award-winning design studio Studio Kiln, founded in Falmouth, Cornwall in 2022, is relocating to London. Co-founder and creative director Nathan Smith explained that the move was driven by the team's desire for easier in-person collaboration, not by dissatisfaction with Cornwall. The studio had embraced remote work, with team members spread across the UK, but review conversations revealed a consistent need for more face-to-face interaction. The transition has been gradual: six months ago they gained access to a shared co-working space in London, and last month they took on their own studio space within that building. They are currently splitting time between London and Falmouth, expecting to fully move by the end of the year. Smith acknowledged the logistical challenges of running two spaces and the difficulty of keeping a dispersed team connected. He advises other studios to identify the real source of pressure before making a similar move. Studio Kiln has built a strong reputation for branding and digital work, including a particle system for BAFTA.
