Student Wins Science Film Prize for Solar Fusion Documentary

Iestyn R., a student from St John's Anglican College in Queensland, received the 2024 University of Sydney Sleek Geeks Science Eureka Prize for his short film titled 'Fusion: The Heart of the Sun.' The documentary explains the proton-proton fusion process in the Sun's core, detailing how hydrogen converts to helium under extreme conditions to generate energy that sustains life on Earth. The prize, sponsored by the University of Sydney, aims to foster science communication among students. Iestyn R. has entered the competition three times, viewing it as a step toward a potential career in science communication. The award was presented by Professor Marcel Dinger and Dr Karl Kruszelnicki.
