StubHub UK fined £900,000 for hidden ticket fees, ordered to refund 50,000 customers

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has mandated that StubHub UK reimburse more than 50,000 customers and impose a fine of £900,000 due to the failure to present total ticket prices clearly, breaching the drip pricing prohibition outlined in the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act. Each affected customer will receive approximately £10. StubHub International explained that this issue stemmed from an 'isolated platform error,' which has since been resolved. Emma Cochrane from the CMA highlighted the illegality of undisclosed fees. Acknowledging its legal violation, StubHub UK received a 40% reduction in penalties. This enforcement is part of a wider CMA inquiry into online pricing, which also includes ongoing investigations into Viagogo. Consumer advocacy group Which? praised the action taken.
