Stuart Semple's HappyWatch Squishes Smiley Face onto Wrist

Artist Stuart Semple has collaborated with Milanese watch brand D1 Milano to create HappyWatch, a limited-edition wearable artwork featuring his signature squished smiley face. The watch has a black case, bright pink silicone strap, and the hand-drawn smiley appears to spill from the dial onto the strap, a detail that required over a year of development. Each watch comes with a jar of Semple's Pinkest Pink pigment, positioning the release as an art multiple. At the Milan launch in D1 Milano's flagship store, the storefront was transformed into a participatory artwork with a giant squashed smiley on the facade and visitors invited to press smiley sculptures made from Pinkest Pink clay onto the windows. Semple criticized the quiet luxury trend, calling it 'utterly boring' and advocating for color and radical optimism. HappyWatch is available online and at the D1 Milano flagship.
