Stream Restaurant by Atelier Guo Nests Against Li River Cliff
Atelier Guo has finalized the Stream Restaurant in Yangshuo, China, which spans 380 square meters and is positioned between a rocky cliff and the Li River. A flood control channel, partly natural and partly engineered, meanders through the site, aligning with the mountain's shape. The design of the restaurant, including its podium and roof, draws inspiration from this channel, abstracting the mountain's silhouette. Principal architect Liaohui Guo led a team consisting of Yuhui Xue, Huan Chen, Min Wu, Canghai Li, Xuliang Pan, Sishi Peng, and Zhuoyuan Li. The Architectural Design and Research Institute of Zhejiang Province created the construction documents, while UNI-Lighting handled the lighting design, and Suzao Architects managed construction. The client was Yangshuo Sugar House, with photography by Hao Chen and Gion von Albertini. The project was completed in 2025.
