Steven Holl Architects to Renovate Historic Ida Noyes Hall at University of Chicago

Ida Noyes Hall at the University of Chicago is set to undergo renovations by Steven Holl Architects, focusing on infrastructure upgrades, enhanced accessibility, and the addition of new spaces, all while maintaining its historic essence. Originally completed in 1916 and designed by Shepley, Rutan & Coolidge, the hall was initially a women's club and now functions as a communal area on campus. JLK Architects will be responsible for historic preservation, while Workshop Architects will manage student life programming. Commissioned in 1913 by La Verne Noyes in honor of his wife, Ida, this Tudor-style building boasts leaded glass windows and a cloistered courtyard. Previous renovations include the Max Palevsky Cinema and a study lounge for the Booth School of Business, with the upcoming work ensuring the preservation of its architectural integrity.
