Steven Holl Architects to Renew Historic Ida Noyes Hall at University of Chicago
The University of Chicago's Ida Noyes Hall is set for a renovation led by Steven Holl Architects, aiming to improve its infrastructure, accessibility, and programming spaces without losing its historical charm. Finished in 1916 and initially designed as a women’s clubhouse by Shepley, Rutan & Coolidge, the building was commissioned in 1913 by La Verne Noyes in memory of his wife. Historic preservation will be managed by JLK Architects, while Workshop Architects will focus on enhancing student life. Interestingly, the gym was converted into the Max Palevsky Cinema back in 1986. This project seeks to blend the building’s architectural heritage with modern needs. Additional restoration efforts are also happening in Marfa, Texas, and Tirana, Albania.
