Stefan Sagmeister's Shimmering Fish Mural Adorns Bentonville Parking Garage

In Bentonville, Arkansas, a captivating mural called *Lake and Rivers*, created by renowned artist Stefan Sagmeister, has been unveiled on a parking structure. Finished in 2023, this artwork showcases two smallmouth bass crafted from 268,947 shimmering disks that dance in the breeze, giving a sense of movement. The smaller bass, made with 66,267 disks, symbolizes the roughly 6 million Americans who went kayaking 15 years ago, while the larger bass, composed of 202,671 disks, reflects the current 18 million kayakers—a significant increase over the past decade and a half. The project took 342 hours to fabricate and used 124 sheets of high-density overlay substrate. Sagmeister, a two-time Grammy winner, is celebrated for blending graphic design with public art, having worked with The Rolling Stones and the Guggenheim Museum. His exhibition, *The Happy Show*, holds the record for the most visitors to a graphic design display, attracting over half a million people worldwide. This mural not only enhances the aesthetic of Bentonville but also inspires locals and visitors to connect with nature and embrace outdoor adventures, highlighting the growing popularity of kayaking in the U.S.
