Stefan Sagmeister's "Finally, Something Good" Opens at Gaîté Lyrique in October 2026
From October 15, 2026 to April 18, 2027, the Gaîté Lyrique in Paris presents "Finally, Something Good," a solo exhibition by New York-based designer Stefan Sagmeister. The show, his first at the venue since "The Happy Show" thirteen years ago, transforms two centuries of statistics into tactile objects. Drawing on national and global databases—including United Nations data—Sagmeister converts graphs into garments, decades into liftable objects, and repaints old paintings to convey new meanings. Topics span conflict, food, health, healthcare access, climate, migration, and happiness, all viewed over long timescales where struggles gradually reshape societies. The exhibition occupies the entire Gaîté Lyrique, extending even to the toilets, where walls become characters. Sagmeister's approach—manufacturing optimism from statistics—may irritate skeptics aware of what global averages can hide. He does not claim all is well; he argues that paralysis is useless. A two-time Grammy winner whose work is in the MoMA and Philadelphia Museum of Art collections, Sagmeister titled his latest series "Beautiful Numbers" and his motto is "Now is Better." The wager: knowing where we come from helps decide what to do. Visitors may enter annoyed but leave checking the figures. The exhibition runs daily except Mondays, 11am–8pm, at 3 bis rue Papin, 75003 Paris (M° Réaumur-Sébastopol, lines 3 and 4). Admission is €13, reduced €10, ages 6–12 €5, free for under 6.
