Ștefan Bertalan's Spirals and Mysteries Exhibition Opens October 2026

exhibition · 2026-10-22

From 17 October to 1 December 2026, the exhibition Spirals and Mysteries showcases the drawings and innovative photographs of Ștefan Bertalan. His work delves into the connections between plant growth, geometric principles, and human life, featuring recurring motifs such as sunflowers, cauliflower, iris, and wild angelica, all depicted as part of a living ecosystem. Influenced by constructivism, bionics, and systems theory, Bertalan merges analytical insight with intuition. His black-and-white photographs, enhanced with drawn elements, reveal relationships between tangible forms and conceptual orders. A 130-day observation of a sunflower, from its germination to its decline, introduces a temporal aspect. The title hints at the themes of growth and lingering enigmas. An epigraph from Bertalan, as cited by Krzysztof Kościuczuk in Mousse Magazine (8 June 2023), references Erwin Kessler's The Self-Punishing One (2010).
