Static Cinema 2026: Photography and Cinema Converge in a Venetian Shipyard

The second edition of Static Cinema, an exhibition exploring the intersection of photography and cinema, will take place in Venice from September 3 to 24, 2026, coinciding with the Venice International Film Festival. The event debuts a new venue: SAN PIETRO-Cantieri del Contemporaneo, located at Campo San Pietro 71, a former shipyard transformed into a space for contemporary art. The artistic direction is led by Pier Paolo Scelsi and Ilaria Cera, who also run Crea, a cultural hub on the Giudecca island. The exhibition is curated by Danila Tkachenko and Slavica Veselinović, founders of ART-ICON, an international curatorial platform. The vernissage is scheduled for September 3 at 6:30 PM, and the exhibition will be open Tuesday through Sunday from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Notable participants include photographer Nick Zinner and filmmaker Lars von Trier, among other prominent names. The show aims to highlight the subtle space where a film still transcends its cinematic context and exists independently.
