Stantec Architecture Completes Paul Albrechtsen Visitor Centre in Winnipeg

Stantec Architecture has completed the Paul Albrechtsen Visitor Centre at FortWhyte Alive, a 660-acre nature preserve in Winnipeg, Canada. The 1,670-square-meter facility, finished in 2025, redefines the gateway to the preserve along the south shore of Muir Lake on a reclaimed industrial site. The project emphasizes renewal, cultural connection, and climate-responsive design. Lead architect Michael Banman headed the team, with Stantec Consulting Ltd handling mechanical, structural, electrical, sustainability, and civil engineering. HTFC Planning & Design provided landscape architecture, while consultants included Niigaan Sinclair, Herz und Lang GmbH, and GeOptimize. Key manufacturers include Accumet, Fabreeka, Guardian Glass, Kalesnikoff Mass Timber, ROCKWOOL, Reynaers Aluminum, Soprema, Thermory, and Westman Steel. The centre serves as a visitor hub for environmental education and recreation.
