Squeeze, Adam Ant and Haircut 100 Bring 80s British Invasion to NYC

New York City's Radio City Music Hall hosted two 1980s British music triple bills in recent months. In June, the Human League, Soft Cell, and Alison Moyet performed their greatest hits as part of the Generations tour. Last Saturday evening, Squeeze, Adam Ant, and Haircut 100 took the stage, delivering a night of New Wave nostalgia. Squeeze, fronted by Glenn Tillbrook and Chris Difford, headlined as part of their Tried, Tested and Trixies tour, promoting their 16th studio album, 'Trixies,' a concept work written in 1974 and recently rediscovered. The album was performed in its entirety, evoking the Beach Boys' 'Pet Sounds.' The set was bookended by classics like 'Pulling Mussels (From the Shell),' 'Tempted,' and 'Take Me I'm Yours,' with a poignant tribute to Dolly Parton by backing singer Danica Dora. Adam Ant and the Ants delivered a hard-rocking set featuring hits like 'Ant Music' and 'Stand and Deliver,' with polyrhythmic drumming recalling 'Kings of the Wild Frontier.' Opening the evening, Haircut 100, recently reunited with singer Nick Heyward, performed songs from their new album 'Boxing the Compass' and their 1981 hit 'Pelican West,' including 'Favourite Shirts (Boy Meets Girl)' and 'Love Plus One.' The three-and-a-half-hour event celebrated the enduring appeal of 80s British pop.
