Speedy Graphito Retrospective 'Arrêt sur images' at Galerie Le Comoedia, Brest

Speedy Graphito, a pioneer of the French urban art scene since the 1980s, presents his first retrospective in Brittany, 'Arrêt sur images', at the Galerie d'art Le Comoedia in Brest. The exhibition transforms the former cinema into a 'Graphitoscope', a visual device where images unfold in a moving journey. Conceived as a total work, the show is structured like a film: each artwork becomes a shot, each space a sequence. The artist designed a free and immersive path, exploring links between art history and contemporary culture, from surrealism to abstraction, pop art to pixel art. The exhibition includes works from public and private collections, as well as previously unseen pieces. Speedy Graphito, known for painting 'from the Canvas to the Street', uses painting, installation, and video. His recognition grew in 1985 when the French Ministry of Culture commissioned a poster for 'La Ruée vers l'art'. The artist's work is characterized by joyful, profound art with bright colors, often ironically subverting popular culture imagery, superheroes, and brands.
