Spain's Culture Ministry Allocates €30.7M to 31 Films

Spain's Ministry of Culture, through the Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts (ICAA), has awarded €30,735,600 in the first round of general production aid for feature films in 2026. The funds come entirely from the ICAA's Film Protection Fund. The total budget for the 2026 call is €62 million, distributed across two procedures. Of the 47 projects that applied, 31 were selected: 30 fiction and one documentary. Notably, 20 of the beneficiaries are international co-productions, receiving €19,735,600, which accounts for 64.21% of the total allocation. Gender equality measures show that nine projects directed exclusively by women were funded, representing 29.03% of all beneficiaries, and all have female-written scripts. Additionally, 29 of 39 projects with female executive producers received aid, and 20 of 31 projects with women composing the soundtrack were funded (64.52% of beneficiaries). All applicant projects have technical teams with at least 40% female presence. Regional distribution reveals that 27 Madrid-based production companies received €6.92 million across 15 projects, 17 Catalan companies got €7.8156 million for nine projects, and 12 Basque companies received €8 million for ten films. Andalusian (7 companies, €4 million), Canarian (2, €2 million), Valencian (5, €1 million), and Navarrese (1, €1 million) producers also benefited.
