Spacefiction Studio wraps Indian home with perforated brick walls and green courtyard
Spacefiction Studio has finalized Twilight House, a 650-square-metre dwelling in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, India, intended for a client's parents to age comfortably amidst nature. The residence features two elongated sections—public and private wings—encircling a hidden green courtyard, enclosed by tall walls made of burnt-clay brick with openings for airflow and views. A concrete ceiling with a grid pattern and glass skylights allows natural light to illuminate the interior, creating dynamic shadow plays on the textured brick surfaces. To navigate between bedrooms and living spaces, one must cross the central courtyard, utilizing either the ground floor or a first-floor bridge accessed by a sculptural white metal staircase. The living area includes a spacious kitchen and dining area with sleek white finishes that opens to a terrace adorned with hanging plants. A pyramidal skylight above and a smaller circular skylight in the prayer room further enhance light flow. The private wing comprises two ground-floor bedrooms adjacent to a double-height lounge, with two more bedrooms upstairs reachable by a staircase and lift for future accessibility. Established in 2015 by Baba Sashank and Vindhya Guduru, Spacefiction Studio previously designed the Rainbow International School extension in Nellore. Photography credits go to Vivek Eadara.
