SP-Arte 2026: Latin America's Largest Art Fair Opens in São Paulo with 180 Exhibitors
On April 8, the 22nd SP-Arte, the largest art fair in Latin America, commenced at the Oscar Niemeyer Pavilion located in São Paulo's Parque Ibirapuera, featuring 180 exhibitors. Brinda Kumar, an associate curator from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, made her inaugural visit, emphasizing Brazil's significance in fostering South-South artistic relationships. Gallery Mendes Wood DM presented landscape artworks by Patricia Leite, Edgar Calel, and Peter Shear, while Almeida & Dale exhibited pieces by Guga Szabon and Maxwell Alexandre. The Lamb gallery made a comeback after its pandemic closure. Founder Fernanda Feitosa highlighted the financial challenges faced by foreign galleries, noting that taxes could raise prices by as much as 45%. New entrants like Ruth Benzacar Gallery and Galeria Foco underscored Brazil's expanding influence in the art market.
