Southampton City Art Gallery Explores British Modern Art with 100+ Artists
This fall, Southampton City Art Gallery is set to feature an exhibit titled Art Then! British Painting, Sculpture and Drawing, 1910-1960. It will display over 100 artworks that highlight how British artists engaged with the Modern Art movement emerging from Europe and elsewhere. The collection includes pieces from more than 100 notable artists, such as Paul Nash, Barbara Hepworth, David Bomberg, Henry Moore, and Lucian Freud. The exhibit charts a historical journey beginning with Roger Fry's 1910 exhibition, Manet and the Post-Impressionists, and extends to Herbert Read's 1933 publication, Art Now, which examined the influence of French avant-garde artists on British art.
