Sordo Madaleno Arquitectos unveils sunken open-air gallery Arte Abierto Baja in Mexico
Sordo Madaleno Arquitectos, a Mexican architectural firm, has unveiled Arte Abierto Baja, an open-air exhibition venue situated in Cabo del Sol, Mexico, for the non-profit organization Arte Abierto. This 180-square-metre gallery is partially embedded four metres underground and is accessed through a ramp bordered by stone walls. The design features a cubic area with five-metre-high concrete walls that produce dynamic shadows. The layout is rotated by 45 degrees, with stone walls encircling the central space. Visitors can choose between two paths leading to an opening in the southwestern corner, which connects to a brick exhibition zone with sandy soil flooring.
