Sophie Becker's Ventriloquism Takes Center Stage in New York and Los Angeles

Sophie Becker, a New York-based actor and ventriloquist, debuted her second performance, Ronnie's Big Idea, at New Theater Hollywood in the spring of 2026. This followed her first show, The Jerry Mahoney Success Seminar, which was presented in 2024 and written by Henry Gunderson. Her artistic contributions were also highlighted at MoMA PS1 for Greater New York 2026. In a conversation with Bonnie Erickson for The Whitney Review, Becker shared insights about her bond with her puppet, Ronnie Woods, which she began crafting during the pandemic at her family's home in Upstate New York. Ronnie's Big Idea delves into themes of codependence and features a smaller puppet named Mini, while Becker's performances critique self-image and social media influencers. This story was published in the September 2026 edition of ArtReview.
