Sophia Sühwold on Movement, Color, and Performance in Berlin Fashion

Sophia Sühwold, a designer from Berlin, presented her graduate collection called 'MOVEmen’t' at the seefashion26 event held at ZK/U (Zentrum für Kunst und Urbanistik). This collection focuses on the athletic female form, exploring themes like physical strength and spatial relationships through the use of colorful jerseys, Lycra, mesh, and knits from Paris, which contrasts sharply with Berlin’s usual dark palette. Sühwold’s design approach has been influenced by her education at IFM in Paris, a Master's at Weißensee, and her time working with Melitta Baumeister in New York. In a recent interview, she discussed her choice of materials, the influence of Berlin’s art community, and her commitment to using deadstock fabrics thoughtfully. The event, supported by Berlin's Mitte District Council and PLATTE.Berlin, featured models that highlighted the connection between body, space, and movement. Sühwold describes her creative style as colorful and bold, much like Smurf ice cream.
