Soojin Kang's Textile Sculptures Explore Organic Forms and Material Logic
Soojin Kang, born in Seoul in 1978 and based in Kulmbach, Germany, creates textile sculptures using raw silk, hemp, jute, linen, and cotton. Her 2022 work 'Landscape' at Ben Hunter, London, featured crimson-dyed tubular forms (425 × 390 cm) and a wall piece (250 × 280 cm) with inward buckling. In 2023, she presented 'To Be You, Whoever You Are' at Gathering, London, her first human figure approach using metal armatures wrapped in natural fibres. Kang has introduced concrete and plaster in works shown at MiArt Milan and Galerie Khoshbakht, Cologne in 2024. She holds an MA from Central Saint Martins (2009) and her work 'Fall' was acquired by the Victoria & Albert Museum in 2017.
