SOM's 175 Park Avenue supertall advances with permits filed for third-tallest NYC tower

Plans have been filed for the ambitious 175 Park Avenue supertall skyscraper in Midtown Manhattan, crafted by SOM. Standing at 1,545 feet with 83 stories, this tower is set to be the third-tallest building in New York City, replacing the Hyatt Grand Central New York hotel. The project, revived by developers RXR Realty and TF Cornerstone from its 2019 inception, leverages air rights established by zoning changes in 2010. Its design incorporates an external steel lattice support system to address challenging underground conditions. The building will host hotel and office spaces, featuring mostly column-free interiors and outdoor amenities. The expected completion date is 2032, while funding and tenant acquisition are still in progress. Demolition of the current hotel may extend over several months or years.
