SolidNature and AMO unveil Il Sonno, a stone supermarket installation for Milan Design Week 2026

SolidNature collaborates with AMO, the think-tank of OMA, to present Il Sonno, an immersive installation at Milan Design Week 2026. The work transforms a supermarket into a geological journey, replacing everyday commodities with stone artifacts crafted from over 40 varieties of stone. David Mahyari, owner of SolidNature, describes the project as challenging disposable culture by inviting visitors to consider long-term value. Samir Bantal, Director of AMO, leads the creative vision, supported by a fifteen-year partnership. The installation features items like milk cartons and detergent bottles, produced using five-axis CNC machinery and finished by artisans. Sustainability is central, with materials sourced from offcuts and existing blocks to minimize waste. Il Sonno will be displayed at ME Milan Il Duca from April 21 to 26, 2026, as part of the Room for Dreams exhibition. Mirrored walls and industrial lighting create a reflective space, encouraging contemplation of human temporality against stone's permanence. Mahyari emphasizes craftsmanship and reuse, noting that all components can be repurposed after demolition.
