Solar Renovates Historic Madrid Home with Recycled Aluminium Facade

architecture-design · 2026-10-22

Solar has completed Casa Castelar, a renovation of a historic home in Madrid that pairs the building's original architectural logic with contemporary living. Oak warms the interior, while a restrained palette and clear spatial order define the architecture. Outside, a finely perforated envelope of recycled aluminium adds a contemporary layer and improves the building's environmental performance. The project is documented in photography by Adrià Goula. Solar frames the work as a minimalism rooted in preservation, in which renovation begins with understanding what gives a place its character and carrying that essence forward. The house's character emerges through natural textures, proportion and light. The project was published by Minimalissimo alongside other architecture features, including Casa TR by Maximale, Casa Tao by HW Studio, Mario Tsai Shanghai Exhibition Space, Mori House by Aires Mateus & MA+Co and Pulse at Houghton.
