Snøhetta's Shanghai Grand Opera House Opens in October

Snøhetta's Shanghai Grand Opera House, completed in June 2026, will open to the public in October 2026. Located on the Huangpu River in the Houtan neighborhood, the building features a helical roof inspired by dance, with a 24-hour observation deck. Inside, three venues (2,000-seat main auditorium, 1,200-seat secondary hall, 1,000-seat flexible theater) are lined in oak and dark-stained wood, designed with Nagata Acoustics. Developed with East China Architectural Design & Research Institute and Theatre Projects, the project is Snøhetta's most ambitious performing arts work, according to founder Kjetil Trædal Thorsen.
