Snarkitecture Creates Biomorphic Packaging for Bowmore's 20-Year-Old Captivo Whiskies

architecture-design · 2026-10-16

In August, Bowmore unveiled two 20-year-old single malts: Captivo Sherry Cask Pursuit, an exclusive for global travel retail, and Captivo Oak Voyage, which is available in the U.S. The bottle and packaging were designed by Snarkitecture, resulting in a biomorphic shape that represents the aging process of whisky. Co-founder Alex Mustonen expressed enthusiasm for the project, highlighting Bowmore's distinction as Islay's oldest licensed distillery. His design was influenced by his visit to Islay, especially the Bowmore No. 1 Vaults. The packaging incorporates concentric imagery and a whimsical font created by Neil Donnelly Studio. Dr. Calum Fraser, master blender at Suntory Global Spirits, detailed the whisky's maturation in American oak Oloroso sherry seasoned butts, which adds complexity.
