Snap Specs smart glasses blend AR display with lightweight design

Snap has unveiled its latest smart glasses, the Snap Specs, at the Augmented World Expo in Long Beach, California. The device combines a high-resolution augmented reality display with a lightweight frame made of Swiss thermoplastic polymer TR90, weighing between 132 and 136 grams. It features a 51-degree field of view, room-tracking technology, and hand-tracking for gesture control, similar to mixed-reality headsets like the Apple Vision Pro. The glasses run on two Snapdragon processors and use liquid crystal on silicon technology with waveguides to project images. They offer up to four hours of mixed-use battery life and come with a charging case that provides four additional charges. Snap has emphasized privacy with an LED indicator for recording and user data controls. The Specs support prescription lenses via removable inserts and have electrochromic lenses that tint in sunlight. Hundreds of apps, called Lenses, have already been developed. The product follows over a decade of development since Snap's first smart glasses in 2016 and will begin shipping in autumn. Snap co-founder Evan Spiegel introduced the glasses on stage, positioning them as a tool for staying present rather than being distracted by phone screens.
