Smiljan Radić Pitches Chilean Circus Tent at Concéntrico 2026

Chilean architect Smiljan Radić has installed Circo, a red-and-white circus tent, in Logroño, Spain, as part of Concéntrico 2026. The 20-meter-diameter temporary structure, part of the festival's Identity and Fiction program, references Chile's traveling circuses that move along the central coast each summer, using cheap plastic sheeting similar to rubble bags. Inside, folding chairs and screens show Joris Ivens' 1963 short film Le petit chapiteau, shot in Valparaíso. Radić links the project to Chilean artist Eugenio Dittborn's Pinturas Aeropostales, folded paintings mailed in grey envelopes during the dictatorship, emphasizing the tent's portability and political charge. The tent, with a central mast and radial lines, uses red fabric segments that change with light. Concéntrico has long used temporary installations to transform Logroño's plazas and vacant sites.
