Slavs and Tatars Return to Haus Esters as Curators for 'Handdschob'

exhibition · 2026-10-03

Slavs and Tatars, the internationally recognized artist collective, will curate a new exhibition titled Handdschob at Haus Esters in Krefeld, Germany, running from October 4, 2026, to March 7, 2027. The project forms part of the HLHE Dialogue: Art x Crafts series and follows the collective's 2019 presentation as artists at the same venue. The exhibition's conceptual starting point is Kunst Hand Werk Brücke, a show held at Haus Lange. In Handdschob, the curators examine craft as a field where labor, sexuality, and identity intersect. Nine contemporary artistic positions drawn from seven different cultural and geographical contexts are featured, opening a cross-disciplinary exchange between historical and contemporary understandings of craft. Slavs and Tatars appear among the participating artists with their own works and also designed the exhibition architecture. Rather than celebrating craftsmanship in a conventional manner, the collective uses the exhibition to interrogate the meanings attached to handmade production. The presentation is organized within the HLHE Dialogue: Art x Crafts framework at Haus Esters.
