Six Fastest-Growing U.S. Music Genres: Afrobeats, Regional Mexican, K-Pop, Amapiano, Latin Urbano, Country

The landscape of American music discovery has been reshaped by streaming algorithms and short-form videos, highlighting six emerging genres: Afrobeats, regional Mexican, K-pop, amapiano, Latin urbano, and an expanded country music scene. Afrobeats, with stars such as Burna Boy and Wizkid, gained traction through the launch of Billboard's U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart in 2022. In regional Mexican, Peso Pluma's corridos tumbados propelled "Ella Baila Sola" into the Hot 100's top five in 2023. K-pop acts like Stray Kids and NewJeans frequently appear on the Billboard 200. Amapiano's Tyla took home the inaugural Grammy for Best African Music Performance in 2024. Latin urbano, spearheaded by Bad Bunny, dominated U.S. charts, while country music enjoyed viral success with Beyoncé's "Texas Hold 'Em." The Recording Academy established the Best African Music Performance category for the 2024 Grammys.
