Six Contemporary Artists Reinterpret Dante's Divine Comedy in Paris Exhibition
Six contemporary artists have taken on Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy for the second cycle of a commission by ARGALI Collection, presented in an exhibition titled "Au milieu du chemin de notre vie." Four painters, one photographer, and one composer — Rodolos, Xavier de Vilmorin, Pia d'Hautefeuille, Luca Matano, Loum Dhérot, and Clara Germont — each followed Dante's journey from the depths of Hell to the bliss of Paradise and share what they saw. Their visions join a long lineage of artists who have shaped Western images of the afterlife through depictions of the Comedy, from Botticelli and Blake to Doré and Dalí. The exhibition unfolds in a Haussmannian reception space in Paris's 7th arrondissement, where classical elegance is entrusted to Parisian and Berlin-based scenographers. A translucent veil envelops the venue, emphasizing its architecture and revealing its finest aspects, creating a suspended space removed from time — a threshold before entering the poem and immersing in the works. Throughout the route, light accompanies the visitor in a progression that mirrors the spirit of Dante's journey. The project reflects ARGALI Collection's approach, generating a dialogue between heritage and contemporary gesture. The presentation draws on the enduring power of Dante's foundational text, whose fine description of human passions continues to surprise through its timelessness, offering the artists inexhaustible material for a vertiginous initiation.
