Six Artists Curate Guggenheim Collection for 60th Anniversary

In celebration of its 60th anniversary, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York is hosting "Artistic License: Six Takes on the Guggenheim Collection." This exhibition features six contemporary artists—Cai Guo-Qiang, Paul Chan, Jenny Holzer, Julie Mehretu, Richard Prince, and Carrie Mae Weems—who each curate a section of the museum's permanent collection. Spanning the entire spiral ramp, the display includes over 300 works from the 20th century. Each artist has chosen a unique theme: Cai Guo-Qiang's "Non-Brand," Paul Chan's "Sex, Water, Salvation," Richard Prince's "Four Paintings Looking Right," Julie Mehretu's "Cry Gold and See Black," Carrie Mae Weems's "What Could Have Been," and Jenny Holzer's emphasis on women artists. The exhibition is open until January 12, 2020.
