SITE Santa Fe Exhibition Traces Native Performance Art Since 1969
SITE Santa Fe is hosting "Indian Theater: Native Performance, Art, and Self-Determination since 1969," a groundbreaking exhibition that underscores the significance of performance in contemporary Native art. Curated by Candice Hopkins from the Carcross/Tagish First Nation, the show includes over 100 pieces by more than 40 artists and collectives. This exhibition is anchored in 1969, marking the publication of "Indian Theatre: An Artistic Experiment in Process" at the Institute of American Indian Arts and the Alcatraz occupation. It highlights a variety of Native artistic expressions, particularly in performance. The project is supported by the Carl and Marilynn Thoma Foundation, Teiger Foundation, and the City of Santa Fe Arts and Culture Department. Established in 1995, SITE Santa Fe is a non-collecting art institution.
