Sin Wai Kin's Living Portraits Dialogue with Old Masters at Frans Hals Museum

Multimedia artist Sin Wai Kin (b. 1991) presents a solo exhibition at the Frans Hals Museum in Haarlem, where their minimally moving video portraits are interspersed with the permanent collection. The works feature alter egos like V Sin, a non-binary drag queen, and reference art historical tropes such as Narcissus and the Venus of Urbino. Notable pieces include 'Asleep' (2024), 'The Storyteller' (2023), and 'Tell me everything you saw and what you think it means' (2018). A new commission, 'The Lens' (2026), departs from Kin's usual self-portraiture by featuring their parents sharing a Cantonese meal while discussing philosophy. The exhibition follows Kin's earlier appearance in the museum's 2024 group show 'The Art of Drag' at its now-closed Grote Markt location.
