Simone Rocha's Spring/Summer 2027 Collection Draws on Caravaggio and the Everyday

exhibition · 2026-09-23

Simone Rocha presented her Spring/Summer 2027 womenswear collection, titled "Revelations of the Everyday," in a show that referenced the 1990 discovery of Caravaggio's The Taking of Christ (1603) in a Dublin Jesuit mess hall. The collection featured padded satin or leather knickers, bra straps integrated into dresses, and wrist-length leather gloves recast as fetish objects. Rocha described the aesthetic as "fetishistic" and said it emphasized the "feminine form, rather than the male gaze." Grandeur appeared in papery taffeta dresses mimicking Caravaggio's drapery and Lynchian blue velvet numbers with floral wreaths. The designer avoided her signature ruffles, ribbons, and pearls, instead showing chewed-up brown wool suits and blood-red sports jackets stuffed with handmade roses. Hardy cotton workman's jackets were wrapped in embroidered tulle or jet beads, while hoodies evoked Renaissance clusters. Models walked with arms crossed defensively. This was Rocha's first womenswear-only show in some time; her menswear was shown in Florence in June. She also has a new Adidas Originals collection. Rocha stated, "Unless I love it, it's not going in," and "I just want to do beautiful things... fucking great clothes."
