Simon Faithfull's 'Earth-ling' and 'An Intimacy with Strangers' at Kindl Berlin

At Kindl – Zentrum für zeitgenössische Kunst in Berlin, Simon Faithfull presents two concurrent exhibitions: his solo show 'Earth-ling' and the group show 'An Intimacy with Strangers,' both exploring non-human-centric relationships. Faithfull's 3D-printed beehive made of cornstarch protrudes from the facade, with bees swarming through its mouth and nostrils. The group show features works by Marcus Coates (locals imitating birds in 'Local Birds'), Pope.L (crawling with a potted plant in 'Tompkins Square Crawl'), Folke Köbberling (compostable SUV replicas), Zheng Bo (men having sex with ferns in 'Pteridophilia'), Jessica Segall (underwater encounters with tigers and alligators in '(un)common intimacy'), David Claerbout (a de-anthropomorphized version of 'The Jungle Book' in 'The pure necessity'), Emerson Pontes/Uýra Sodoma (photos transforming into a mythical creature to highlight rainforest threats), and Peggy Atherton (porcelain roadkill sculptures). Faithfull's own works include 'Collaboration with an Ant' (2023/26), a tattoo tracing an ant's path; 'Escape Vehicles' (1995–2005), sending a chair to space; and a film about flooded 'Dome Houses' off Florida's coast. He references influences like Land Art, Arte Povera, and biologist Lynn Margulis. Faithfull, born 1966 in England, lives in Berlin since 2005 and grew up in the Braziers Park commune, also home to his half-sister Marianne Faithfull (1946–2025). The exhibitions run at Kindl in Neukölln.
