Silvina Der Meguerditchian's First Solo Show in Armenia in Over 20 Years at NPAK

Silvina Der Meguerditchian, an artist with roots in Buenos Aires and Armenian grandparents who relocated to West Berlin in the late 1980s, is showcasing her first solo exhibition in Armenia in over twenty years at Yerevan's NPAK. Titled 'A Wistful Gaze – Toward the Future' and curated by Nathalie Hoyos and Rainald Schumacher, the exhibition merges personal recollections with broader narratives, delving into themes of loss, belonging, and tradition. The 2024 video piece 'Care to Care' illustrates the cultural significance of hair-combing rituals, while 'Frou Flou' (2023/2025) features hair braided into radiant, synthetic sculptures named after women. Additionally, 'Buenos Aires/Berlin' (2025) and 'Armenia' (2025) from the five-part 'Qanun Archives' series explore the qanun's historical journey. The installation 'The Silence of Stones' (2022/2023) contemplates the erasure of cultural heritage. Der Meguerditchian was part of the Armenian Pavilion that won the Golden Lion at the 56th Venice Biennale in 2015.
