Sigmar Polke: The Knowledge of Colours at De Pont Museum, Tilburg

exhibition · 2026-09-21

From September 20, 2026, to February 28, 2027, Tilburg's De Pont Museum will host "Sigmar Polke: The Knowledge of Colours." This exhibition highlights Polke's color experiments from the 1980s, including the four-part series Hermes Trismegistos I-IV (1995) and Farbtafeln (1986/87 and 1992), along with pieces from the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and other collections. It examines early color experiments through to 2000s interference works, delving into the cultural and political implications of materials. This event is part of "Sigmar Polke: Athanor NOW," organized by the Anna Polke Foundation to celebrate the fortieth anniversary of Polke's Athanor installation at the 1986 Venice Biennale, curated by Kathrin Barutzki, Martijn van Nieuwenhuyzen, and Maria Schnyder, with backing from the Thomas and Doris Ammann Foundation, Zurich.
