Siân Davey: Intimate Portraits of Family and Community

British photographer Siân Davey, born in 1964 in Brighton, United Kingdom, draws on personal experiences, motherhood, and family relationships as central themes in her photographic practice. Her images primarily feature relatives, friends, and members of her community, captured with a discreet and sensitive approach that reveals spontaneous gestures, moments of vulnerability, and authentic connections. Shot in domestic settings or natural environments, her photographs are distinguished by soft natural light, intense colors, and seemingly spontaneous compositions that lend her work an intimate and affectionate quality. Davey studied painting at Bath Academy of Fine Art and social policy at the University of Brighton. Before turning to photography in 2014, she worked as a psychotherapist for fifteen years. She has published two books: "Looking for Alice" (2015) and "Martha" (2018). In 2017, she held a solo exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in London and was awarded the Hood Medal by the Royal Photographic Society for "Looking for Alice." Her work continues to explore the nuances of human connection through a deeply personal lens.
