Shou Sugi Ban House: A Carbonized Wood Residence in Perth

Sandy Anghie Architect has completed Casa Shou Sugi Ban, a residential project in Perth, Western Australia. The house is named after the traditional Japanese technique of charring wood, shou sugi ban, used in the extension of an existing character home. The technique adds a striking visual aesthetic to the property, blending traditional and modern elements. The project was curated by Miwa Negoro and photographed by Dion Robeson. Completed in 2025, the house exemplifies the integration of ancient craft into contemporary architecture.
