SHISUO Design Office's Coffee Shed Grows Around Trees in Shanghai's Luxun Park
The Coffee Shed at Luxun Park, designed by SHISUO Design Office, is a 290-square-meter café in Shanghai featuring a rust-colored façade that incorporates five mature plane trees into its design. Architects Sanif and Changshan led the project, which had to navigate the complexities of an existing glass-roof canopy. Rather than uprooting the trees, the design carefully calculated columns around their roots and branches. The weathering steel roof elegantly folds downward to showcase views of the park, with openings allowing branches to extend through. Complementing the nearby Marriage Registration Office, red terrazzo floors enhance the aesthetic.
