Shirana Shahbazi's 'All at Once' at Kunstmuseum Luzern Blends Photography with Installation

Iranian photographer Shirana Shahbazi (b. 1974, Tehran) presents 'All at Once. An Interplay with Li Tavor' at Kunstmuseum Luzern, running from July 4 to October 18, 2026. The exhibition compiles past and recent works examining photography's dualities—its precision in representing durable reality versus capturing the ephemeral. Shahbazi, who studied at Fachhochschule Dortmund and Hochschule für Gestaltung und Kunst Zürich and now resides in Zurich, employs techniques from analog cameras to Ektachrome printing and serigraphy. Her practice spans abstract compositions akin to painting, staged portraits, and spontaneous documentary-style captures from travels across Europe, Japan, India, and Iran. The show includes works by Li Tavor and Monir Shahroudy Farmanfarmaian; Tavor's latex panels hang from the ceiling, creating a three-dimensional dialogue with Shahbazi's wall-mounted pieces. Shahbazi's recent accolades include the Prix Meret Oppenheim (2019), Mutina Art Prize (2022), and Prix de la Société des Arts de Genève (2025). She also teaches at ZHdK Zurich and EPFL Lausanne. The exhibition features murals, photographic posters, color fields, and ceramic surfaces, transforming the gallery into an immersive installation.
