Shilaya Cottage: Stone Home in Kotagiri by Meister Varma Architects
Shilaya Cottage, a newly completed residence spanning 2,400 square feet in Kotagiri, Tamil Nadu, was finalized in 2025 by Meister Varma Architects. The name derives from the term "śilā," symbolizing its stone construction and colonial influences. The cottage replaces a previously dilapidated building on a brownfield site, showcasing local stone craftsmanship that aligns with European architectural styles. The project was spearheaded by Krishnan Varma and saw collaboration with WVA Consulting Engineers for structural design, Interstellar for lighting, and XN Electricals for electrical installations. Various contractors contributed, alongside photographer Syam Sreesylam capturing the finished work.
