Shigeru Ban Architects Unveils SIMOSE Museum and Villa Complex on Seto Inland Sea
In 2023, Shigeru Ban Architects finalized the Museo y Albergue SIMOSE, a 7,421 m² facility situated on a 4.6-hectare plot overlooking Japan's Seto Inland Sea. This development features a museum, ten villa-style lodgings, and a restaurant overseen by Miwa Negoro. At the heart of the complex, a mirrored glass wall, measuring 180 meters in length and 8.5 meters in height, beautifully reflects the surrounding scenery. Shigeru Ban led the architectural design, supported by Akihiro Yamauchi and others. The project was contracted to Kajima Corporation for the museum, while Daiwa Construction managed the villas. Engineering was provided by KAP and Ryoma Murata Building Studio, with suppliers including LOTTE CHEMICAL and Toto. Photography was conducted by Hiroyuki Hirai.
