Shigeru Ban Architects Completes Toyota City Museum in Japan

Shigeru Ban Architects has completed the Toyota City Museum, a 7,891 m² project in Toyota, Japan, scheduled for 2024. The museum is positioned on the eastern side of the site, adjacent to the Toyota Municipal Museum of Art, to allow integrated use. The western side was designed as a continuous landscape that connects with the art museum, integrating both grounds. Curated by Miwa Negoro, the project team includes principal architect Shigeru Ban, with design and supervision by Ayumu Kosuge, Keita Sugai, Shuntaro Sano, and Tomonori Suzuki, and supervision by Masao Hata. Structural and MEP engineering was provided by Ove Arup and Partners Japan Ltd. Landscape architecture by Ohtori Consultants Environmental Design Institute, lighting design by Lumimedia lab, civil engineering by Ohtori Consultants, graphic design for logos, signage, and exhibitions by Kijuro Yahagi Inc., cost engineering by FUTABA QUANTITY SURVEYORS, and exhibition and storage environmental design by Tanseisha. Construction was carried out by Sanei Construction JV (architecture), Ono Construction JV (electrical), Mikawa Construction JV (mechanical), Yahagi Road (campus road), Tanseisha (exhibition interiors and collection storage), Uotsu Construction (reconstruction of traditional house and warehouse), and AD Green (tomb reconstruction).
