Shenzhen Natural History Museum Opens with Landscape-Integrated Design

In Shenzhen, China, the Shenzhen Natural History Museum has officially opened its doors, crafted by the collaborative efforts of 3XN, B+H Architects, and Zhubo Design. This facility stands as the largest natural history museum in South China, encompassing more than 1.13 million square feet. Situated near Yanzi Lake, its design features a granite exterior and five cone-like structures, offering an engaging journey through 4.6 billion years of Earth's history via its exhibits. The museum showcases extensive installations and specimens that emphasize local ecosystems while also functioning as a community hub with public gardens, plazas, and a roof. Kim Herforth Nielsen from 3XN envisioned it as a piece of landscape architecture, while Nan Zhaoxu described it as a 'living educational landscape,' symbolizing Shenzhen's commitment to culture.
